SOP/NDMA

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), chaired by the Prime Minister of India, is the apex body responsible for overseeing and coordinating disaster management efforts across the country. Established under the Disaster Management Act, 2005, NDMA’s primary objective is to formulate policies, plans, and guidelines for efficient disaster prevention, mitigation, preparedness, and response.

The Act mandates the establishment of NDMA and promotes the creation of institutional mechanisms at the state and district levels, ensuring a comprehensive and structured approach to disaster management. This framework empowers state and district authorities to develop localized strategies and systems, enabling effective coordination and quick responses during disasters.

Through its leadership, NDMA has been instrumental in improving India’s disaster resilience, enhancing risk management capabilities, and promoting a culture of preparedness across all levels of governance and society. Its holistic approach ensures that both immediate response mechanisms and long-term strategies are in place to safeguard lives, property, and resources in the face of natural and human-induced disasters.
